People always ask the question "How did Gear to Go get started?" Usually I answer with something evasively brilliant like "well, ya know...just sort of fell into it...blah, blah, blah." Now for the first time ever I will tell the untold story.
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away....Oops! That is another story.
Rich Mak and Phil Sieg, friends and entrepreneurs, had an IDEA. The IDEA was that life would be simpler, and sweeter, if all this stuff you lug around were better organized, more portable, and easier to get to when you need it.
So out of this IDEA came the NAME "Stuff-n-Sacks." We sent the IDEA and NAME to the marketing department, and they said "That stinks!" This of course is what all marketing departments say about things THEY didn't think of first. So THEY sent back a new NAME "Port-a-Packs." WE (Rich and Phil) said that sounds like "Port-a-Toilet" and that "really stinks."
For those of you who have a Marketing Department, or have ever dealt with one, you know what this means: we have a "Central American Standoff." Rich and Phil being Masters of THE DEAL, suggested to the marketing department a long expensive lunch to work things out. After much philosophical debate, and a restaurant bill the size of Australia's National Deficit, detente was achieved! "Gear to Go" was born.
